He could travel at or nearly the speed of sound without heating up because the air at that altitude is so thin (1.5% sealevel). He decelerated in the thicker air. I wonder how many extreme adventures would pay to be able to duplicate that jump. from leaving the gondola to max speed was about 35 seconds. Anyone know how long the total fall was with and without chute open? Total Mission duration?

This was one of three jumps, the later being from 103,00ft travelling at the speed of sound. The first jump nearly killed him when his chute snagged.

he wasnt in space. 30km is not even a/3 of the way to the international definition of space, which is 100km, or 61.7 miles. he wasnt going nearly fast enough to burn up, and he never really 're-entered'.. he never left!

I wonder how much $$ he got for jumping off that high?
