and for more than 200 years its been the duty of many soldiers. but in the civil world responsable people should have the right to keep and bare i was a soldier for 13 years and ive been to countrys that dont allow firearms and the ones who dont carry are the victims of many crimes and assaults

if the original fathers of this country didn't feel that protecting your loved ones wasnt really that important i dont think that they would have made it a point to place it second besides freedom of speech. i would rather be the good guy holding a weapon than the bad guy pointing one at me unarmed. i doubt he will drop his for a hug.

I am a Canadian.. and believe it or not Canada has one of the largest population of gun owners/users per capitol in the world.. the only difference is is that here(for the most part) guns are looked upon as a tool.. for hunting.. so it isn't common to own a handgun(unless you belong to a shooting club then that's different) and our guns don't have fully automatic(that would foul the meat) and sure a lot of us don't have the will or the need to overthrow our government( some do.. look at the Conservative party.. Stephen Harper eats babies) because we as canadians know that it takes too long for one nut job in office to do any real harm.. four years and your out, if your a real screw up your party will be thrown out by the opposition.. oh and as a closing to whomever was talking about sitting in a tree with a mil-spec .223(5.whatever mm) waiting for a deer.. is using a .223 legal for shooting anything bigger than a coyote where you live cus trust me a .223 will not drop a deer.. they're little bullets at high velocity (its illegal in Canada cus it's cruel) oh and that little Gatling gun is cool.. and they're 22lr rounds not mags not.17's cus the bullet diameter matches the diameter of the shell casing and it's obviously a rim fire shell.. have fun ya'll..

The intent of the founding fathers was for the people to always have the means to defeat and end a goverment not of the people by the people for the people. To rhyno..the stats that you are referring to are not really true. Those studies take in account households that own guns and someone used it to commit suicide as well as self inflicted accidents. This info has been a favorite PR fluff for those liberal gun haters for years. If you take out the suicides and accidental self inflicted deaths, the numbers are very, very low. Besides, many studies have shown that due to guns being in homes, many would be crimes are stopped. No one can really say just how many lives have been saved by gun ownership, but it is believed to be far greater than those accidental shootings. As for this happening to your neighbor, if it is true I am sorry, but it seems there are so many anti gun folks out there that claim this happened to their neighbor of relative, that if they were true, there would be hundreds of thousands of these deaths, I believe it mostly to be a urban legend, most likely created by liberals who want to get guns out of the hands of law bidding citizens and leave them in the hands of the criminals.

Thats friggin awesome! The thing is, that would be a very impractical gun to use for what everyone seems to be afraid of, people running into a public place and gunning down folks. As you see, its on a tripod, and if he tries to grab hold of the front end to lift it, I'd imagine it'd get pretty hot with that ROF.. I think gun control is a ***ing joke I live in califorina which has the strictest gun laws in the country. The assault weapons has done nothing to prevent crime. Why most criminals weapon of choice is a hand gun not some big black scarry assault rifle. I think people without violent criminal records should be able to have what ever they want. they have ban certain semiauto rifles because of features like pistolgrips this is rediculouse cause anyone could go to any gun store and buy a mini 14 that has no pistolgrip and 10 round detachable mag. in .223 cal. the same cal. as the evil ar15. this is stupid because features on a gun dont make them any moke deadly. I could get a mini 14 legally find a high capacity magazine and go kill a bunch of tree hugging liberals just as well as some big black scary rifle. Actually, need to clarify. There are 120,00 physician related deaths a year in the US. 1500 accidental gun deaths. Based on 700,00 physicians and 80 million guns. You are 900 times more likely to be killed by your doctor than a gun accident. Statistics from the US department of Health and the FBI. They can be verified. Respect of firearms is required and sometimes ignored – with that in mind the highly educated doctors kill many more people than the backwoods gun totin idiots.

You are silly. A 'kill' shot is much more 'humane' than beating an animal with a rock or stick. Clean shots do take skill - especially from a half mile way (223 yeh right). Your accidental deaths studies are complete crap. There are more guns in the US than people. Studies actually show a very low change of such - you have almost a 600% chance of being killed by your doctor than a gun accident. On the other hand, in countries with guns banned the crimes of violence are not less but rather more heinous. The right to bear arms was not just for miltia but for the citizen. There is such a thing as a Automatic weapons permit for non-felons. Sure the rounds this weapons shoots are leathal in the right spot, but still, its probably not very accurate.
