This is what happened. The traffic light turned to red to allow pedestrians to cross. All cars have stopped, but the cyclists continued to cross the intersection. Evidently, these bicycle ridders believe that traffic lights don't apply to them or that they are above the law. I am an avid cyclist and I think the action of the policeman was justfified. If you use a street, regardless of what vehicle you are ridding, you must obey traffic rules.

I hate cops. I remember one incident in the paper where they shot a man who reached for something in his pocket (which they later determined was not a gun) and they shot him 56 TIMES with a 9mm pistol. How does that 'accidentally' happen!?

that is the critical mass bike ride, annual ride through manhattan. the cop assaulted the bicylist - then arressted him and charged him with attempted assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. after the video came to the news he was stripped of his gun and badge and the bicylist was released with an apology. he's suing the department.

Yes, the cyclist was going through a red light but even so that cop had no right to manhandle that guy like that. He could of just as easily stepped in front of him and put his arm on the handlebars. Just because you wear a badge doesnt mean you have the right to be a prick..I hope someone knocks his ass around a little.
