The horse didn't just knock her down, he bit her on the breast. Watch the video in slow motion-- the horse can be seen opening his mouth and then closing on her. Having been bitten myself and known others who have been, I can tell you that her injuries were not a joke-- the crush force a horse can exert with his teeth is tremendous. As to what provoked the horse, I can find no clue in the video. And, as to her inattention, horses, big though they are, are quicker than most people imagine...
a pony that may be, but that body language is agressive, not playful-- I can almost see his ears pinned back against his head. I've seen dominant horses "out of the blue" suddenly charge and nip other horses, to assert their dominance. That is the only explanation I can think of, for why he bit her. Most horses probably don't realize that we are much more fragile that way, than they are.
