You're all wrong. The port crewman is at fault. He did not untie the rear tiedown. The starboard crewman see's this and signals the port crewman, who rushes back to untie it. The starboard crewman then moves forward and into the pilot's LOS, who then takes off per SOP. The tiedown hauls the port side of the bird down. Everything else is just a consequence.
As a matter of fact the starboard crewman shares some (a very little) of the blame. He should have stayed behind the pilot's LOS until the other guy had finished. But nobody likes hanging out under the "decapiators", so he went forward without thinking.
You're all wrong. It's the port crewman's fault. He only removed the forward tiedown. The starboard crewman removed the both rear and forward tiedowns, notice he took twice as long. He signals the port crewman who rushes back to untie the rear. The starboard crewman then goes forward. The pilot, seeing him in his LOS took off per SOP. Port rear tiedown then pulls the bird down. Keerash! Smash!
If I was the pilot I'd take a week off!
I'm in the Navy, and we do these takeoffs all the time. It's the most dangerous thing you can do. Notice how the chopper lifted off when the ship started to go down. Gravity is a bitch. The Canadians have the best system to combat that happening..look it up, it's a nifty contraption.
WOW!
@krazyme: the tailrotor DOES hit the ground, take a look at 1:02-1:03. Also look at the tail rotor at 1:23-1:25, the main rotor is still spinning at normal speed but the tail rotor is almost stopped. And most convincingly, look at the highest tail rotor blade at the and of the clip. It's not supposed to have that shape! The tail rotor hit the deck and broke the drive shaft.
They came off a wave and the heli left the pad. The pilot tried to correct the forward movement into the bridge of the ship and hit the tail rotor which then failed. I think they had just landed prior to this clip.
Not sure though.
no i dont think it was the tail rotor, if you pay attention, when its taking off, the landing skid on the left side hits somethin on yellow area causing the helicopter to loose balance and control.
Tail rotor failed.
Extremely dangerous. I bet that guy in the corner felt pretty happy the next day. "I AM ALIVE!1!11"
