A U.S. Navy F-14A Explodes On Camera
A U.S. Navy F-14A is captured exploding from the USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) during a flyby in the Pacific Ocean 800 miles west of Guam on Sept 20,1995. The two aviators were safely recovered by rescue boats.

Did they ever find out what happened?
For one that is not an F-15,it is an F-14 Tomcat going supersonic and somewhere along at the point of supersonic boom the aircraft experience an flame out?engine malfunction.Both pilots were seen floating down on a chute.

OMG that was terrible! Hope the pilot is alright...wonder why it exploded like that? that was so uncanny that it was being filmed at the time it exploded...
