While I don't think he should have done this for as long as he did, many of the same or similar movements are recommended in baby yoga and baby gymnastics. As long as you're careful with the wrist and ankle joints by holding the for-arm or calf instead, it actually helps to strengthen the joints, tendons, and muscles.

Abuse? far from it, I did the same (ok, similar) with my two boys (a couple of years apart). They are both now 17 and are as perfect as late teens can be. Zero physical or mental harm done, but they do love their dad (and I them)! To the gripers above, I say you are the reason that kids don't respect their parents any more, don't obey the laws, and get into trouble so young!! When I see girls aged 12 with a baby I have to wonder - just who is to blame? It sure as heck wasn't me!
