Surfing Shark Scare - Cool Surfing Pictures

A once in a lifetime picture of a surfer in the water right beside a huge shark! I hope he did not get attacked by the shark after the picture was taken! This would have scared me out of the water for life!

Alot of you guys are obviously not too educated on what a shark looks like. The dude that said it was a dolphin dorsal.. let's strap some raw meet on you and send you swimming with that dorsal fin..

dolphins come in all sizes, just like most things. Is is clearly not a shark based on its pointy nose, curved dorsal fin, and horizontal tail fin.

I never understood why people on the internet act like they are experts. It's a fantasy world, you can basically say you are work at Sea World and are a Purpoise expert. Who's to know. But I have seen video footage of not one, but two sharks that went after a surfer in the curl of the wave. Cool photo whatever creature it is.

I think its a lake trout.. It really doesn't matter if its a shark/dolphin. Anyone who's been in the ocean has likely had sharks swim near them, but they just don't know it. I remember surfing in California as a kid, waiting for a good wave, looking down and seeing blue sharks swimming right under me. I've been in the oceans thousands of times and never got attacked. The ocean is the sharks home and we are only guest.

Open a book about zoology, you ignorants. It's a dolphin! I used to swim with both of these animals, and it can not be shark. What is more, many dolphins like to surf waves, something that sharks don't. So please, stop mistaking and return to your classroom. Nice picture!

I agree that is not a shark in picture you can tell by the dorsal fin, it's a dolphin, you can also see the tail fin is hroizontal not vertical which makes it a dolphin

Definately a shark, pointed nose, pointed fin, narrow tail. Yeah, that's a 10 on the pucker factor scale. It would take me a week to dig the board out of my ars, trying to climb my way out of that one.

What would someone have to do if that was really a shark and they were that close?!! cuz sharks can obv swim faster than humans, MUCH FASTER so u couldn't just swin away and hope for the best cuz if it saw you, you would know you were gonna die so..

This has actually happened to me once, although i was not as close as he was, the shark was a tiger shark, about the same size, cutting through the wave just the same, about 10 meters away, on the east coast of Australia. VERY SCAREY MOMENT. About 6 surfers jumped on the very same wave, and went straight into shore.

Happydaze, Jimmybaker you both are correct. This is a dolphin, look at its head, its tail, its nose for kamis-sake! my mother is a marine biologist and i know for a fact this is a dolphin, i've spent most of my life with sharks, seals, dolphins, whales etc, this is definetly a dolphin but if you think otherwise then i dont care. believe what you wish.
