Huge Saw - Cool Pictures

What's up with this massive saw? At first I thought the picture was fake but the more I look at it I just don't know. It could be real I guess.

wolffmanMay 07, 2006 12:54 AM
This is a coal or mineral digger, The 'saw' are buckets which in this view wi go clockwise or up as it digs. This unit is probably based in Germany. The material is dumped on a conveyor and it goes on to the other end of the machine.

killerchickenMay 07, 2006 1:58 AM
This is a coal mineing machine in germeny.the saw part is a bunch of buckets for scoping up coal.Saw this on the descovery channel.

MadagascarMay 07, 2006 3:50 AM
It actually takes 2and a half years just to put it togetha

charliebrownMay 07, 2006 6:58 AM
THAT IS CALLED A BUCKET WHEEL. IT IS USED TO DIG OFF THE OVERBURDEN OF SOFT SOIL TO EXPOSE THE COAL UNDERNEATH. IT IS ONLY GOOD FOR SOFT SOIL. THEY ARE USED IN HAMBURG GERMANY.

drinkMay 07, 2006 7:17 AM
Well, I don't think it is a fake. It is a mine digger built by Krupp. here is a link with more pictures. http://www.swapmeetdave.com/Humor/Workshop/Trencher.htm

MadagascarMay 07, 2006 8:33 AM

I saw this on Discovery channel, it is real i watched it on mean machines. the machine is from germany and its over 200 feet long!

dehydrochlorideMay 07, 2006 9:29 AM
i saw the show on it too. its used to cut toothpicks into the size you want.

BDMFMay 07, 2006 1:38 PM
YOUR VIEWPOINT MAKES YOU THINK IT IS A SAW. IT IS IN FACT A MINING MACHINE. THE "TEETH" ARE BUCKETS THAT DIG INTO THE GROUND.

villarrxMay 07, 2006 4:30 PM
its not a saw..its a giant dozer, this is at germany,

MesserschmitMay 07, 2006 5:23 PM
Ok, yes it is a mine digger, and it based in Germany, and yes people it has a bucket-wheel. It is used for mining brown coal, wich is pritty soft if you compare it to normal stone coal.

sevenzenMay 07, 2006 6:33 PM
I don't think it's a saw. I believe it's a giant cyclical land mover. I don't think those are blades, I think those are "bulldozer type" scoops. I think that it probably scoops up land and dirt (etc) and dumps it onto a a conveyor belt that is on another type of vehicle behind it.

loafMay 07, 2006 6:46 PM
this is not a saw!!!! it is actually a shovel used to dig up tar sands in fort mcmurry ,alberta, canada.just some usefull info for ya.

agy2k1May 07, 2006 10:05 PM
This is the largest saw in the world. It actualy is used for mining and it is used to grind away at the material from it's native source.

PendersMay 08, 2006 5:49 AM
dang, looks alien!

craigMay 08, 2006 8:12 AM
Sure is real. Saw a documentry about it on Discovery Channel

Vyctoria1May 08, 2006 10:36 AM
This is real and not a saw. It is a very large ( as you can see ) earth mover. What you think is a saw are huge buckets that rotate like a saw taking thousands of pounds of dirt and as they continue to rotate they also empty onto a conveyer belt at opposite end to load dump trucks.

MadagascarMay 08, 2006 10:44 AM
om my god vyctoria thats EXACTLY WHAT WE'VE BEEN SAYING FOR CHRISTSAKE

Migs2000May 08, 2006 4:28 PM
THAT IS NOT A SAW!!! It's a special mining device built in Germany. Those "teeth" are actually large buckets that pick up dirt as it spins and places it on a conveyer belt. They are self-propelled too.

smartroadMay 08, 2006 4:50 PM
It isn't a saw, it is used in Germany to scoop out huge amounts of coal (I think it is coal) :D

joelhelibustosMay 08, 2006 5:24 PM
amaizing

MadagascarMay 09, 2006 2:28 PM
it has 4 substations of electricity just to keep it goin, wot the hel did u think it rean on? water, petrol, diesel? no

KnowmanMay 09, 2006 5:20 PM
It's not a saw. It's called a "Bucket Wheel Reclaimer" and it's used to mine ore. The wheel at the front rotates and the "saw teeth" you think you are seeing are really buckets that pick up ore. Once the buckets are upside down the ore drops onto a conveyor belt at the back of the machine. That's the long, tail-like contraption you see behind the main center unit housing the drive units - electric motors, gears, cables, etc.

Nikky pooMay 09, 2006 11:52 PM
oh yeah, thats real all right, its a massive strip miner. at the end that isnt a blade those are actually buckets for tearing out soil and filtering it for the raw coal. good guess though.

MadagascarMay 10, 2006 1:50 AM
for godsake y do u keep postin what it is? dosnt it look like we know already? jeez

Nikky pooMay 11, 2006 11:57 PM
sry madagascar i dont speak queer

The.co.kidMay 12, 2006 3:49 PM

fondu1May 27, 2006 7:55 PM
is not a saw all those teeth are actually buckets for coal mines

eric abramJun 01, 2006 8:59 AM
ya im sory if im being rude knowman but its not called a bucket wheel reclaimer its a bucket wheel excavator. I once saw a buldozer crushed between the wheel and the arm where the arm is close to the wheel that was funny.

Sara's brotherJun 17, 2006 12:28 PM
HEY RETARd that aint no saw. it's a miner. Those things that look like blades are shovels. durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

eagledriverJun 25, 2006 12:10 PM
This machine is called a BucketWheel excavator. They a only found in Europe. Most of them in Germany.

oilyJul 26, 2006 5:39 PM
this is not a saw its an excavator at syncrude or suncore

Mad Mike Yo' Knowai'msayiOct 05, 2006 12:56 AM
Yeah it's now being used to cut a hole into f**king, pussy-ass france so the u.s. can insert a backbone! f**king, spineless, pussy-ass french bastards! knowai'msayin'yo?

jymm364Oct 16, 2006 7:03 PM
It's not a giant saw, it's actually a giant shovel on a crane. Its used to mine for minerals on the soil at a fast pace. Hence the size of the crane.

avolonMar 24, 2007 12:49 PM
yeah, they usually use those on like, huge cliffs though. i've seen one before.

joooooeeeellllllllllMay 04, 2007 10:37 PM
i agree with mad mike

whitefoxJun 20, 2007 3:17 PM
oh $%!^ that would be scary

massieJan 27, 2008 9:17 AM
some of you are close.. but u all have it wrong.. its used to excavate coal and other minerals, that have alredy been mined, from a pile, where the given mineral was dumped, onto an moving convayor belt wich carrys it normally into a ship or trains hold for transportation. also they are not only found in europe but also in australia, canada(vancouver)and africa .
