a pilots spine compresses anywhere from 2-4 inches upon ejection.. kudos man that would suck

It takes a real pro to be able to resist ejecting right away at the first sign of trouble, and only the best will stay the course until their absolutely certain that their jet wont take out anyone else. Thats a five second until impact ejection (the last possible moment)

Almost all pilots that have ejected have suffered some degree of compression fracture in their lumbar vertebra(lower back). Ouch! I'd rather just go to the carnival for a ride!
